Mission

The legislation that established the Authority charges ORGA with the responsibility of establishing a series of unique parks along the Oconee River. The Authority board approved the following mission statement in 2002:

  • To create a corridor along the Oconee River that will become a regionally and nationally recognized resource that integrates local economic benefits, increased public use and resource protection and enhancement
  • To coordinate expansion of the Greenway outside of Baldwin County with other counties along the Oconee River
  • To plan and manage the Oconee River Greenway Corridor for future generations through community involvement and jurisdictional cooperation
  • To provide opportunities for public education and exposure to our natural resources along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor
  • To provide increased recreational benefits, including trails for hikers, joggers and non-motorized bikes, visual enjoyment and enhanced river access
  • To protect archeological and historical sites along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor as well as promoting their relevance to the community history
  • To promote stewardship/guardianship of natural resources through education, ongoing planning and maintenance
  • To assure the co-existence of wildlife, natural vegetation and people along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor so that each complements the other
