Mission
The legislation that established the Authority charges ORGA with the
responsibility of establishing a series of unique parks along the Oconee
River. The Authority board approved the following mission statement in 2002:
- To create a corridor along the Oconee River that will become a regionally and nationally recognized resource that integrates local economic benefits, increased public use and resource protection and enhancement
- To coordinate expansion of the Greenway outside of Baldwin County with other counties along the Oconee River
- To plan and manage the Oconee River Greenway Corridor for future generations through community involvement and jurisdictional cooperation
- To provide opportunities for public education and exposure to our natural resources along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor
- To provide increased recreational benefits, including trails for hikers, joggers and non-motorized bikes, visual enjoyment and enhanced river access
- To protect archeological and historical sites along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor as well as promoting their relevance to the community history
- To promote stewardship/guardianship of natural resources through education, ongoing planning and maintenance
- To assure the co-existence of wildlife, natural vegetation and people along the Oconee River Greenway Corridor so that each complements the other
